The subconscious artist

Posted in Everyday Life on May 25th, 2009 by Faderhead

It’s weird how emotions trigger my artistic flow. If all is normal, I just can’t seem to find inspiration. If things go exceptionally good or exceptionally bad or something really strange happens then I can’t help but write something good.

Now writing heavy lyrics to grimey beats and droney synths …

Staying in is the new going out …

Posted in Everyday Life on May 21st, 2009 by Faderhead

Last night Electra X asked me why I wasn’t out with my buddies Björn (Combichrist) and Eric (Catastrophe Ballet) as planned. I replied with something that most musicians I met in my life don’t seem to understand: if you don’t stay in and work on your tracks when everyone is going out – I highly doubt that you will get anywhere. Inspiration can not be forced. If it is there, you have to capture it. In my case that sometimes means not going out for weeks, being grumpy if things don’t work like I want them to and generally focussing on things that most people will never understand. Like listening to the same 4 bar loop on repeat for 8 hours in a row. Does it drive me nuts? Sometimes. Is it necessary? Totally!

Partying and meeting people is also very necessary and everyone who knows me knows that I like going out. After all, you can’t be inspired if all you see is your apartment (unless you only want to sing about how alone you are, hehe). But you have to recognize when it is time to get serious and work on your art. If that means saying “no” to your friends, then that’s ok in my book. Also: some of the happiest moments in my life are when a new song starts to take the shape that I envisioned for it.

Luckily my friends understand all that.

This is my studio where I hide:
Studio 11
It’s easy to lose track of time here.

Make the most of your life and if that means staying in and being alone when everybody is out partying – so be it. In the end, I know that I will be making myself and other people happy with my music …

Beatnation in Belgium

Posted in Everyday Life, News on May 18th, 2009 by Faderhead

Got back from Belgium yesterday where we played the Beatnation 2nd Anniversary Party! My man Joep asked us to play and how could we say no? The Frontline club was a gritty underground location which was perfect for a dirty electro show like this and we had tons of fun. I usually prefer the smaller shows, cause it’s much easier to interact with the audience. Tibor Tóth (Chamber 502) was playing Keyboards for Lordy Visconti (who was at Festival Kinetik in Montreal with XP8) and I must admit that I was very happy with his performance! Good shit!

Big thanks to everyone who came out to see the show and party with us! Also thanks to Joep, Sven, Branko, Peter, Mario and everyone else who helped make this such a relaxed show for us. Everything really went without a hitch and the obligatory 3 bottles of vodka were gone quicker than ever! :)

Here’s a little video so you can see what it’s like on the road with Faderhead:

Hope to see you all again the next time we come to Hellgium! :D
